Overview
Configuring a payment gateway securely connects Off The Couch to your payment processor. This allows you to accept card payments, process refunds, and receive funds from customer purchases.
At least one active payment gateway is required to process card based payments.
Configuring Your Payment Gateway
- Navigate to
Purchases > Payment Settings > Payment Gateways - Select your payment processor:
- Enter your processor’s API credentials:
- Save your credentials and activate the gateway
Once activated, card payments will be available immediately.
Using Test Credentials
Most payment processors provide test or sandbox credentials.
You can use test credentials to:
- Verify your setup
- Run test transactions
- Confirm payments are flowing correctly
When you are ready to accept real customer payments, switch to Live credentials and ensure the gateway is active.
Troubleshooting
Why aren’t card payments working?
If card payments are failing or the Add Payment option is unavailable, it usually means there is no active payment gateway or the configuration is incomplete.
Quick checks
1. Is a payment gateway active?
Go to Purchases > Payment Settings > Payment Gateways and confirm at least one gateway shows as Active.
2. Are you using the correct credentials?
Test credentials will not process real customer payments.
3. Is the correct Location ID entered?
For Square, the Location ID must match the environment:
- Sandbox Location ID for test credentials
- Live Location ID for live credentials
4. Did you save after entering credentials?
Credentials must be saved and activated before they take effect.
5. Are card payments enabled in Payment Methods?
Confirm that Card is enabled under Payment Methods.
